College of Education

University of Illinois

Looking to make their learning space more flexible, the University of Illinois retained Reifsteck Wakefield Fanning to update two classroom in the College of Education building. The classrooms were part of the first phase of a two-phase, five classroom renovation to provide enhanced learning experiences for students, new teaching opportunities for faculty and to better facilitate educational trends. RWF is responsible for planning, design and construction phases. The project was “fast-tracked” requiring quick and efficient turn-around of construction documents.

The design of the classroom incorporates advanced A/V equipment for active learning, including integrated technology and mobile furniture that can easily be rearranged. Improvements include upgrades of the existing finishes – flooring, paint, ceiling, and lighting, furniture and technology used in these classrooms to teach and collaborate. Select remediation of hazardous materials was also included in the project work.  These enhancements will be constructed in phases over the summer break in order to minimize disruption to the College of Education’s instruction schedule.
